MPSS Suspension Unit

[Patent# US9,333,436 B2]

Non-assembled Suspension Unit for scale vehicles [i.e. 1/6 scale or larger]. This unit is designed for a swing arm type suspension system, with an individual load of up to 8.6 kg (19 lb.)

This self-standing suspension unit consists of a road wheel shaft, connected to a layered swing arm, which is connected to the swing arm shaft with an adjustable tension coil spring. Each suspension unit is rotating inside a steel square tube rail (not included).

A suspension plate is positioned against the rail, with a semi-moon groove, for fine tuning the suspension tension.

Internal Floor print of unit: 5.5 cm width (2.1") by 6 cm length (2.4"). The height of this unit is only 5.4 cm (2.25")


    • Flexible: Each suspension unit is independent from the other units. They can be positioned at different locations, combined in sets of x4, x6, x8 or even x16 for Scale German Tiger and Panther or Allied Cromwell or T-34 tanks of WW II.
    • Strong: A series of suspension units across a steel rail will increase the structural strength of the vehicle. This suspension can be mounted on frames such as Plastic, Fiberglass, Aluminum or Steel.
    • Powerful: The coil springs are rated for 8.6 kg (19 lbs) for each unit, which allows for 136 kg (300 lbs) loads for a set of x16 units.
    • Adjustable: Two adjustments are possible on this suspension unit: The coarse adjustment is made on the position of the hex bolt connection between the swing arm layered plates and the swing arm shaft. The fine adjustment is made on the tension plate connected to the coil spring tangential arm.


  • Coil Spring with tangential arm (specify "right-hand or left-hand" spring)
  • One 1/2" ID Swing arm sleeve with two 5/8" OD bearings. 3/8" bolt with nut
  • One 3/8" OD, 1/4" ID Road-Wheel arm sleeve with 1/4" bolt with nut
  • Tangential arm bracket lock with bolt & nut.
  • 3" laser-cut swing arm, made of two 12-gauge inner arms and one 16-gauge wrap-around arm.

What you need to provide:

  • Decide how many wheels your vehicle should have
  • 1 1/4" Mild Steel Rail: Drill 5/8" holes for each suspension swing arm axles, and 1/4" hole for the suspension stopper.
  • Drill 1/2" in each wheel to insert wheel axle bushings.
